Long Time Since the Last NamingToolbox Journal Post

Last night Anna asked, "Is the Naming Toolbox Journal coming back?"

It has been a long time since I posted to this blog. The answer to Anna's question is a resounding - "Yes."

In the last few months we've moved our offices. I've also had several projects taking up all of my time. Enough excuses. In the next few weeks, I'll start writing again on a regular schedule.

A few potential topics are:
  • Copyrights vs. Trademarks
  • 6 common mistakes people make naming websites
  • When does it make sense to use bible based names like, Genesis, Revelations, Amen, Grace, Hallelujah, etc in a product or business name?
  • Should you hire a lawyer before you incorporate?
  • Product licensing questions
So stay tuned for new posts. Until next time,

Good Luck With Your New Venture

Before You Name Your Business, Define the Qualities that Make You Different from Your Competition

Do you want your business to really stand out from the crowd? Then create a name for your business that stands for the qualities that make your business different from your competition.

Will your business provide a faster service? How much faster? Rachel Ray's TV show "30 Minute Meals" is a great example of a name that tells people immediately that her show is different from the other shows on the Food network. You can do the same thing by telling how fast your service is in the name.

Another example of a great name that communicates speed immediately is Swiffer. It took a synonym of faster. Changed a letter and voila . . . you have a great name that conveys the quality immediately.

Will your product or service be easier to use? How will it be easier? Tell it in your name. One of the best selling toys in Hasbro history was the Easy-Bake Oven. Or how about "Easy-Off" oven cleaner. Great names.

Will your product be more fun? How will it be more fun? That's what Chuck E Cheese did. Tell it in your name.

So when you're creating that name for your new product or business, make sure the quality that makes your product different is in the name.
